This intensive will change your discipline and how to write and perform your sketches well and how to re-write even better sketches. You will have 2 days to write sketches in class, with Nick’s assistance and you will perform your best sketches in front of an audience. You don’t want to miss this opportunity.
Below are the offered courses:
Sketch Intensive 1: Intro to Sketch - Writing for Character
In this sketch intensive you will learn how to write and re-write sketches to their full potential. You will write character monologues on your own and sketches with other members of the class. The end result will be a show on Sunday night at Blacktop Comedy performed by you! In the end, you will come out with strong polished sketches and characters to use for a writing packet, auditions or future shows.
Sketch Intensive 2: Intermediate (Prerequisite: Completed Level 1)
In this level you build upon what you learned in level 1. Although this time you’ll be writing more advanced sketches by yourself and with a writing partner. You will write more character sketches and even some parody and/or satire sketches. You will perform your best sketches Sunday Night at Blacktop Comedy.
Sketch Intensive 3: Advanced Writing and Performing (Prerequisite Sketch 1 and 2)
In the last level of the intensive you will write more advanced sketches and even delve into writing sketches with characters that interact with the audience (Improvised Sketches). This is your chance to excel and guide your writing for the future. Whether you want to write for TV, movies or sketch this will help you in all aspects of writing. Strong character is key to any good story. Strong discipline gets the job done. You will perform your best pieces on Sunday at Blacktop Comedy.
Nick Armstrong Bio:
Nick is an Actor, Improviser and Writer living in Los Angeles, CA. On TV, Nick has been on the Emmy-Award winning shows The Office and Grey's Anatomy. He has also made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Brooklyn Nine Nine, New Girl, Hot in Cleveland, Parks and Recreation and plays Cliff on IFC’s Stan Against Evil. He has also Executive Produced, acted and written a pilot for A&E. Nick is currently working with TruTV on the development of a TV Program.
Nick has trained at The Groundlings and iO West. He is an alum of The famed Sunday Company at the Groundlings and currently performs at the world-famous iO West on LA's Critically Acclaimed Harold Team King Ten. Nick is currently the Artistic Director of Mi's Westside Comedy Theater and teaches and performs there. He has also taught improv at iO West, The Groundlings and has done workshops and headlined festivals all over the world.
Nick is also the Camp Director and Founder of Camp Improv Utopia a a 501(c) (3) Non Profit improv retreat for grown ups. He is also one of the founding members of the The Improv Network. For more information visit www.nickarmstrong.com
